Darren Grooms

Managing Director

Darren has been at the helm for over 20 years now building the company up to be one of the country’s largest independent Construction Logistic Companies operating throughout the UK.
Darren studied Quantity Surveying at Northumbria University part time during the infancy of the business growth so has good understanding of how to add value to the services we offer.
Outside of work likes to spend time with his Wife and three children albeit not so young these days and also enjoys football where you will often find him in the North Stand at Old Trafford on a Saturday afternoon, also a keen cyclist and also enjoys helping out with local Charity Heel & Toe.

Neil Milburn

Commercial Director

Neil joined the company straight out of college back in 2006 as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor studying part time over five years at Northumbria University. Neil has continued to grow with the company and in more recent times has completed a Masters in Business Finance and Economics which puts him in good stead to manage all commercial aspects of the business.
Neil is also a keen football fan and follows a local League one team (SAFC), and more recently has also taken to cycling, but still pursues his long-term favourite Golf, where he continues to play to his single figured handicap.

Andrew Scott

Project Manager

Andrew joined the company in 2003 halfway through his Construction and Project Management Degree in which he achieved a first while studying part time at Northumbria University. Andrew and his unique skill set have been most influential on driving the business forward throughout his time at Starkold and continues to manage all aspects of the site-based work most diligently.
Andrew is also a keen football fan supporting one of the regions more reputable clubs (NUFC). Andrew has also taken to cycling and has taken part in many of our Coast2Coast charity cycling events over the years, he also enjoys time with his family and young daughter.

Jackie Gleghorn

Finance Manager

Jackie our first employee joined the company in 2000 and has been in Accountancy and Finance for a number of years previous within the motor trade. Jackie has controlled the finances and has adapted with all the changes that HMRC have had to throw at the Construction Industry all within her stride.
Jackie enjoys time out with her family and also love a bit of retail therapy on a weekend.

Chloe Charlton

Resource Manager

Chloe Joined the company in 2017, she came from the Catering industry with no prior experience in Construction or Recruitment, however Chloe has shown a great no can do attitude and spent time back in education and has completed a modern apprenticeship in Business Administration, she has a great attitude for managing all of our recruitment requirements with great professionalism.
Chloe also loves to spend time with her family and the occasional weekend in the caravan and has also been known to take on a bit of fishing.

Zoe Thexton

Resource Assistant

Zoe joined the company in 2017 from a college placement with no prior experience in construction, Zoe has completed her Business Administration apprenticeship and now has a critical role in the day to day running of all admin based systems in connection with the Resource and Recruitment and also having the confidence to carry out front of house duties, virtual interviews and client integration.
Zoe enjoys socialising with friends and family and time in the Gym.

Chris Crook

Logistical Support

Chris joined the company in 2019 after serving 28 years with HM Forces, Chris initially carried out some work experience with Starkold during his transition from military life to that of a civilian and in doing so brining with him some worldly experience, Chris is now responsible for Logistical support to all our projects nationwide.
Chris is now enjoying life with his family as no more deployments to worry about, Chris also likes keeping fit in the gym and a bit of cycling, and loves watching his lad play football.

Alisa Hardman

Environmental Manager

Ailsa joined the company in 2020, she originally studied Biological Sciences (Biotechnology) at the University of Edinburgh and more recently an MSc with Distinction in Safety, Health and Environmental Science at Northumbria University. Ailsa brings with her a wealth of experience where she has carried out various Waste management projects with various construction companies throughout the UK. Ailsa now oversees all our client Environmental Auditing and waste solutions including Smart-Waste, Optimise and Site Waste Clearance.com.
Ailsa enjoys spending time walking in the countryside along with a bit of strawberry picking and of course time with her family.

Anthony Maylett

Contracts Manager

Anthony now based out of Manchester Started working with Starkold in 2005 as a ForkLift Driver and continued his progress and training to become an accomplished Logistics Manager working on a broad spectrum of projects from Aviation to large scale student accommodation projects.
Anthony now a Contracts Manager is now well placed with his knowledge and experience to help oversee all site based operations.
Anthony enjoys time out with his family and loves to see his boys train and play football, also a keen Manchester United fan.

Leah & Kayla Turnbull (AKA The Twins)

Finance Apprentices

Recently joined in 2020 straight from College and winners of the Prestigious Henry Smith Award have recently enrolled on their AAT apprenticeships. Bothe Leah and Kayla have shown a great aptitude for learning across a broad spectrum of the various business interests within the office.
Both girls enjoy socialising with friends, keeping fit in the gym and sharing fun times with family.
